Another Independence Tragedy: Former MD of NAN, Oluremi Oyo dies @62


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) were thrown is a state of mourning as its former Managing Director, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo died in a London hospital at the early hours of today, October 2, 2014. after battling with cancer for many months.
According to her husband, Mr Vincent Oyo who confirmed her death this morning, Mrs Oyo has been battling withthe dreadful disease for a long while.
She served as the Senior Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo for media and publicity from 2003 - 2007, She was appointed in july 2007 as the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, the first woman to hold such position.
Late Mrs. Oyo was born in 1952, in Ilorin, Kwara state. She was a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria. She has received many awards including a 2006 National award of Officer of the Niger Award, OON and she is a Dame of Saint Gregory the Great, a knighthood bestowed on her by Pope Benedict the 16th for her tireless work in supporting the education of girls especially in her Alma Mater , St Louis Secondary School, Kano
She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren.
